The Hippodrome is in a fabulous location. We selected it based on a recommendation from Rick Steve's Istanbul which are typically a combo of a good value, helpful, clean, and well located. Our room was moldy and musty - if you have allergies do not even consider it. The ceiling leaked when it rained - we had to move the bed because it was draining on to us while we slept. The staff was not helpful or knowledgeable - they couldn't even recommend a restaurant that they would eat at. The breakfasts were at a hotel down the street that catered to a tour bus crowd. 1 plus - the roof top terrace (unfurnished and neglected) had beautiful views of the Blue Mosque. We canceled our second stay at the Hippodrome and opted to stay at a small pension for1/3 the price that a walk-in was charged at the Hippodrome.

Yes! Very quiet, clean and excellently positioned. Amaizing breakfast on the terrace of the next hotel with excellent view toward Bosforus.

I have been going to Istanbul for 15 years. Hippodrome is ideally located. 2 minutes walking from the Sultanahmet Mosque ("Blue Mosque" on a quiet street. That is the good part. It was clean, comfortable. Nice bathroom in each room. Rate was reasonable through Skoosh, about $100 per night.
The bad part is that the service doesn't compare to comparable hotels. I have stayed in Sari Konak, which just next door is much nicer. For example, Hippodrome doesn't even have its own breakfast, you have to go to a hotel down a street for breakfast. That is strange for this class of hotel.
So all in all, I would say a good bargain, but there are better choices.
